FOREWORD OF UPCOMING BOOK " Wisdom for living"

FOREWORD OF UPCOMING BOOK " WISDOM FOR LIVING"

Since I first met Yogi Shanti Desai in 1998 my life has been tremendously enriched by his teachings, presence and way of life. His prior books have been a constant source of inspiration and guidance, both in turbulent times and times of persistent practice.
I admire Yogi Shanti Desai for his consistency, both in his teachings and personal life. He is a master of yoga, a master life who has prioritized his activities in a way that has brought him self-realization, a peaceful family life and surplus of money and time. To me this kind balanced life is the success we all seek.
Through more than 60 years of practice he has gained tremendous insights into yoga philosophy, insights that rival many of the scholars who write about yoga these days but at the same time lack the experience of what they are writing about. With fresh eyes and direct experience Yogi Shanti Desai has brought the ancient texts and teachings of the rishis to life and made them applicable for laymen and advanced practitioners alike.
In this book you will find the major teachings of yoga in a concise and practical manner. Yogi Shanti Desai shares his mission in life in such a way as to inspire. He explains the psychological reasons that keep many Western yoga students from reaching their full potential, makes many of the mystical sutras and stanzas understandable, give quotes for daily reading and inspiration, and explains many of the most important meditation practices of yoga.
You have before you a spiritual buffet; a feast for the seekers of truth. My advice to you is simple. Start with reading the book from page to page. But don’t stop there. Come to often for advice and inspiration. Choose a paragraph or two to read before and after meditation. Explore the books contents. Yogi Shanti Desai has a certain style of writing that is foreign to many Westerners. He is concise and does not waste space on excessive words, but instead comes straight to the point and writes only about the essence. Read his sentences and paragraphs carefully, savor them, dig deep into their meaning and reap the benefits in you daily life as well as in you spiritual search.
Yogi Shanti Desai has shown me the true meaning of spirituality through the life he lives. He is an inspirational role model of a different kind than those that society idolizes these days. I hope that his simple life, deep and meaningful message, insistence of self-reliance, sharp intellect and compassionate presence may be felt through the following pages and that you may derive as much benefit from his teachings as I have.

THE MISSION OF YOGI SHANTI DESAI

THE MISSION OF YOGI SHANTI DESAI

Yogi Shanti Desai was born in 1940 and has practiced yoga since he was 8 years old. He has integrated all aspects of yoga in his personal, family, social and business life. He has successfully balanced all aspects of his life and has created surplus and attained contentment. He is at a stage of life called sanyas (renunciation) where he dedicates his life to meditation and selfless service. He would now like to share his experiences and wisdom with the world. In his own words:

“I have taught yoga for over forty years. Teaching has been inspirational (Satsang) for me. I have searched for truth and have maintained awareness and questioned authorities. I have been revolutionary explorer and have relied on my personal practices, contemplation and experiences. I have expressed them through my books.
Since 1972, I have chosen personal practice and family life as primary goal and teaching and book publications as a means. I have stayed in Ocean City, NJ, for that time and have only taught locally. I have not focused on missionary work, earning wealth, fame or power by creating organization and disciples. I have taught in the purest form without manipulating to please the audience or personal gain.
These days I am disturbed by the manipulation and distortion in name of yoga and spirituality. People are misguided and confused by leaders who are motivated by personal gain and not by selfless service. Most students and teachers are mostly programmed by brand names, style of yoga and levels of yoga and do not have clarity of what they practice, teach and why they teach. They loose the capacity to explore total yoga as a life-style. They sacrifice inner peace for the perfection of body and compete for external alignment. They are motivated by looking good, feeling good and impressing others.
I would like awaken people that are ready and teach them the simplistic lifestyle of yoga that they can apply in everyday life. I would like to introduce revolutionary approach for dynamic balanced living, transform people and help them to turn their life into a waking form of meditation.”

Yogi Shanti Desai is available to teach extensively to groups that are ready to receive his teachings. Spiritual teachings are priceless. However, they should be affordable for all. No one should be turned down due to financial problems. Students should be able to give unconditionally instead of bargaining. One can contribute money and services unconditionally to spread the teachings and experience the true joy of selfless service. In his own words:

“I have no worldly ambitions and have found contentment. I need only the basic traveling expenses for me, my wife and associate. All the profits can be efficiently distributed to sponsoring institutions, publication and distribution of books. There should be transparency and efficient use of money and energy to transform the life of many. I hope this model catches like wild fire and transforms the entire world.”
